The Exchange TRX: Experience-Led Lifestyle Destination Set To Transform KL’s Retail Landscape
October 21, 2021

Malaysia’s first master-planned financial centre, Tun Razak Exchange (TRX), has come to life in Kuala Lumpur. Beyond the skyscrapers and financial headquarters opening in TRX, the new CBD will also welcome a lifestyle destination, known as The Exchange TRX, that is sure to get everyone in KL abuzz with excitement.

Immersive experiences

With The Exchange TRX, Lendlease, a leading international property group based in Australia, in partnership with TRX City Sdn Bhd, unveils a first of its kind “lifestyle precinct in the park” concept, featuring 400 lifestyle, entertainment, dining offers, concept stores as well as new-to-market brands crowned by a 10-acre activated public park on the roof.

The Exchange TRX will embody Lendlease’s core pillars of placemaking and urban regeneration. Lendlease - responsible for iconic developments like Barangaroo South in Sydney and Elephant Park in London - has a strong global track record of creating places that generate social, environmental and economic value.

“At The Exchange TRX, we are focused on providing diverse experiences, where the community can come together, socialise and enjoy what the precinct has to offer - a departure from the conventional retail experience in Malaysia. This approach is inspired by Lendlease’s values and vision of creating a positive legacy focused on strong engagement with the community and creating places where communities thrive,” says Mitch Wilson, Head of Retail Lendlease Malaysia.

Visitors can expect events, entertainment, arts and culture, sports and leisure, with a combination of online and offline conveniences, through personalised in-store and digital experiences. So far, some of the unique offerings set to open here are Malaysia’s first and only Seibu Department Store, spread across 250,000 sq ft over 4 levels, an upscale supermarket brand by Dairy Farm Group of Hong Kong as well as a new concept in cinema and entertainment by Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC).

Foodies can also rest assured that they will be spoilt for choice. The Exchange TRX comes with no less than five precincts for culinary adventures. Those looking for alfresco experiences can choose between Park Dining, surrounded by the lush greenery of the park, or the Dining Terrace, perfect for both a special meal with loved ones or to wine and dine business associates. For top-of-the-line indulgence, the Premium Dining option will offer luxurious fine dining with the absolute best ambiance the city has to offer.

Shoppers looking for a convenient and tasty accompaniment to their shopping trips will be delighted by Concourse Dining, which lays out a wide range of local and international favourites for everyone in the family. Meanwhile, foodies looking for something more local, casual and fun can head to the Food Exchange, a showcase of Malaysia’s own diverse cuisines and culinary delights.

Beyond food and shopping, activations throughout The Exchange TRX will ensure a buzzy, exciting vibe with something for everyone. Open public spaces will feature entertainment and cultural activities for visitors to enjoy, while the Central Atrium has been designed to hold events with up to 800 people, as well as breakout areas for activities like TEDTalks and live performances.

Another noteworthy highlight is Market Lane, which is inspired in part by Melbourne’s famed laneways. This 300m retail lane is dedicated to up-and-coming Malaysian entrepreneurs, artists and musicians. KL’s most creative young minds will be provided with the opportunity to operate in an international precinct while being in an environment that connects with them and their brand.

Park life

The most spectacular event destination will be located on the rooftop, set within the public park, which will be the new social place to celebrate arts, culture, community and sporting events. This is primed to become KL’s most scenic location to host red carpet galas, festivals, concerts, movie premiers and more.

From the rooftop, the public park cascades down to ground level, seamlessly integrating with both the retail building and the surrounding areas. What results is a delightful blurring between indoor and outdoor spaces

The park promises lush greenery – home to more than 150,000 plantings from close to 150 native plant species percent of which will be native or naturalised species – as well as open spaces, children’s play areas, water features, and beautiful shaded sections, which make it a fantastic place for relaxing, exercising, family excursions, picnics and alfresco dining.
