Jalan Imbi housed the famous Pasar Baru Bukit Bintang or Imbi market, (now moved to the ICC building) for over three decades, making it a KL staple. Over the years, more eateries opened in the vicinity to cater to the growing crowd, eventually making this street a food haven. Imbi boasts an array of honest, good makan places whether for the office crowd, the intrepid foodie or the curious tourists, this area is “food central” on weekdays and equally busy on weekends. Food place: Q Cup Cafe @ No. 72, Jalan Imbi
Food type: Gourmet coffee and wine bar
Food order list: Esmeralda Special Geisha (RM60/cup), New York cheesecake (RM11), house special omelette (RM20)
Food note: Very relaxed ambience, effortless decor and bright lighting (plus point in the time of dim lighting trend that can be stuffy). They have a very wide selection of beans, including rare ones for the discerning. Owner is ex chef, so expect high quality food and presentation. The cafe is on the upper floor, so look up for the signage on the wall.
Food place: Levain Boulangerie & Pâtisserie @ No. 7, Jalan Delima
Food type: French bakery and cafe,
Food order list: Grilled snapper (RM34.90), wasabi chicken burger (RM22), nutty chocolate brownie (RM10.90), high-tea set for two (RM38.50)
Food note: Housed in a refurbished old bungalow, this comfortable, no-fuss setting is the perfect spot for a cuppa with a crusty croissant. All pastries and breads are baked in house, using their stone oven. Step inside and you will be greeted with aroma of fresh pastry.
Food place: Asama Tomyam Pecal Lele @ Jalan 2/7A, Kampung Pandan
Food type: Indonesian, Thai food
Food order list: Pecal ayam (chicken – RM6.50), pecal keli (catfish – RM7), pecal puyuh (quail – RM8).
Food note: Pecal set consists of deep fried chicken/catfish/quail with blanched vegetables, peanut sauce, spicy sambal, soup, lettuce and cucumber. Asama is very popular among weekday’s office crowd, and parking is tricky. Come early, look for blue tents and cars parked alongside of the road.
