LRT Putra Extension starts operations
August 4, 2016

Along with the 3-line Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system currently being built, KL has got plenty more connectivity face-lifts to look forward to. The Light Rail Transit (LRT) extension plan is one of the transportation upgrades city goers can enjoy lately.

The extension project is now complete, starting operations on June 30. The Kelana Jaya line extension passes through twelve new stations, including Ara Damansara, Subang Jaya and USJ before ending at Putra Heights.

Other stations under the project are Lembah Subang, Ara Damansara, Glenmarie, Subang Jaya, SS15, SS18, USJ 7, Taipan, Wawasan, USJ 21 and Alam Megah.

The extended line is also connected to the KTM Komuter network at Subang Jaya station and the Bus Rapid Transit-Sunway Line at USJ 7 station making travelling more seamless. It now takes less than an hour and just slightly more than RM4 to travel by train from USJ Taipan to KLCC, bypassing the congested highways.

Also opening on the same date are two more stations on the Ampang/ Sri Petaling line, namely Puchong Perdana and Puchong Prima, as well as the exchange station in Putra Heights.

Since the fourth quarter of last year, the Ampang line has commissioned ten new stations, from Awan Besar to Kinrara to several stations in Puchong.

The Kelana Jaya LRT alignment runs for a total length of 46.4 kilometres covering major residential areas, passing through Petaling Jaya, Bangsar, KL Sentral, KLCC, Setiawangsa, among others, before ending in Gombak. The Ampang line meanwhile covers another 45.1 km.

All stations would be supported by feeder bus services and future plans include cycling lanes and a pedestrian path so that commuters can access the stations on foot and bicycle. Currently, a total of 2,200 parking bays is planned to be available on both lines.

The rates and fares had been approved by the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) and has been made public. The fares can be viewed at www.myrapid.com.my.
