KL has made its mark as a destination for MICE – which stands for Meetings, Incentives, Conference and Exhibition – thanks to its strategic central location within Asia, efficient infrastructure and connectivity and strong government tourism push.
Some MICE venues in KL are purpose-built with conference visitors in mind – centralised within reach of hotels, shopping malls, and public transportation.
One example is the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre that sits right next to KLCC in the heart of KL. It has 20 meeting rooms, 3 conference halls and a grand ballroom on an area close to 105,000 square feet. Owing its stature to PETRONAS, most F1 Grand Prix roadshows are also held here. Also a popular concert venue, it has the capacity of holding thousands of visitors outdoors, especially with the 50-acre lush park just next door.
Housed within Mid Valley Megamall, one of KL’s most popular shopping mall is the Mid Valley Exhibition Centre. Participants not only get to attend the event, they can shop, dine or even catch a movie or two during their visit. Mid Valley is also attached to three hotels catering to several price points, while benefiting from its own KTM train station that is just one station away from KL Sentral.
Other MICE centers in Klang Valley are contained within a resort-like surrounding, such as the newly renovated Sime Darby Convention Centre in Bukit Kiara, or the Sunway Pyramid Convention Center that is attached to the Sunway Resort Hotel and Spa. Both these locations are further from downtown, but they more than compensate with their resort experience, or in the case of Sime Darby, the undulating fairways of the KL Golf and Country Club.
The Putra World Trade Centre on Jalan Tun Razak, meanwhile, is an oldie but a goodie. It has hosted significant international conferences for more than 30 years now. With its four grand sized exhibition halls, a simultaneous six-language interpretation system and VIP facilities that accommodates up to 10,000 people, it remains one of the most sought-after MICE venues in KL.
