Raya Shopping: KL’s Best Bargains
June 16, 2017

By now, all malls and street bazaars are packed with Raya bargain hunters selecting the perfect outfits, curtains, kuih raya and home decorations. Malls are popular, but there are spots around the cities that are tailored for Raya necessities.

The top go-to spot is the Jalan TAR-Masjid India. With bazaars and specialty malls, it is the one-stop shopping destination for those who are looking to buy different things at one place. The bazaars are merry at night and even livelier on Raya eve itself when vendors reduce prices to clear their stocks. You can find ready-made clothing, hijabs, kuih raya, lemang, ketupat and rendang, decorative flowers and decors, accessories, shoes as well as electronics and home appliances. Wait for the final hours and get ready for some major savings!

Wisma YAKIN and Semua House are equally appealing. Families enjoy the endless selection of baju raya at negotiable prices. Every shop stocks up by the thousands and shoppers are spoilt for choices. Preferred tailors such as Omar Ali, Den Wahab and Bak Tailor have stopped taking new orders for Baju Melayu by now and are only selling ready-made suits.

Specialty stores such as Kamdar, Gulati’s and Jakel are congested with patrons checking out ready-to-wear baju melayu, kurta, baju kurung and kebaya during this discount wars.

Shah Alam’s 36-year old Kompleks PKNS is an eccentric mall for cosmetics, traditional Malay apparels and wedding items. It becomes more exuberant during Ramadan with affordable ready-made Raya clothes in every colour and fabric imaginable. Some sellers even do free alterations on the spot if you are lucky. Start shopping early and finish with Ramadan bazaar outside the mall.

In the friendly suburban Bangi, their new mall Bangi Gateway offers another all-in-one shopping alternative.  Boasting more than 200 shops including dining options and popular Muslimah boutiques like Qaira Hijab, Shazzmin Collection and Jelitasara, raya shopping is made easy. Accessible via PLUS (Bandar Baru Bangi Exit) and Besraya, this is an option if the city is too crowded.

If you are inclined for something more hipster-current, a new addition to KL’s ultimate raya shopping is definitely Mood Republic’s Raya Fest sale, which houses hundreds of fashion vendors under one roof. Held in PWTC every year, they received more than 500,000 visitors last year with their one-stop raya shopping concept. Trendy designer brands such as Aidijuma, Sugarscarf, Jubah Souq, Alfio Raldo, Neelofar Hijab, Furby and Sugar are up for grabs with great discounts and freebies.
