KUALA LUMPUR, 10 September 2012: 1MDB (1Malaysia Development Berhad) and Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) are building a new integrated commercial centre (ICC) to house traders relocating from Pasar Baru Bukit Bintang.
The existing Pasar Baru Bukit Bintang in Imbi is making way for the Tun Razak Exchange (TRX) development.
The new ICC will be located on a 2.5-acre site in the Pudu area, off Jalan Davis.
Relocation, however, will only take place after the proposed ICC nearby is completed towards end-2013.
1MDB is working closely with the DBKL on the design of the ICC and will consult traders for feedback on the new modern market.
The proposed ICC will offer the best representation of Malaysian food and fresh produce in a modern facility. It will have a market floor, shops for quality dry goods, hawker-style F&B outlets, goods delivery facilities and ample parking space.
CEO 1MDB Real Estate Sdn Bhd Dato’ Azmar Talib said” “We are always responsive to the community, taking proactive steps to minimise impact in relocating the current occupants.”’
“With sound guidance and cooperation of Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur, we are able to provide for the needs of the people,” he said.
Some 260 traders are estimated to be involved. The allocation for the businesses at the ICC will be determined by the DBKL.
1MDB with guidance and approval of DBKL recently diverted traffic from non-essential roads for public safety as well as to facilitate site preparation work.
Roads leading to the wet market Pasar Baru Bukit Bintang are not affected to allow businesses at the wet market to carry on as usual until a new replacement site is ready.
1MDB has successfully relocated 95% of occupants and businesses from the site and the rest is expected to move out soon to make way for the construction works.
1MDB is the Master Developer for the 70-acre TRX which is a strategic development towards strengthening Kuala Lumpur’s position as a nucleus for growth and transforming it into a 20 most liveable global city. Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Mohamed Najib Tun Haji Abdul Razak launched TRX on 30 July 2012.
